Marie Ashby – Inside Out BBC East Midlands

Marie was born in Scotland and grew up in Cumbria with the Lakes on her doorstep. She studied a French degree in Leeds and spent part of it in France and Switzerland on attachment to Radio Monte Carlo and Radio Television Suisse Romande which were amazing experiences.

Marie started her journalism career on a post grad course studying journalism in Portsmouth. A year later she moved back to Cumbria. Her first job was as a district reporter for BBC Radio Cumbria based in Barrow in Furness. Six months later she moved to BBC Radio Nottingham, and then BBC Midlands Today at Pebble Mill as it was then. A memorable moment was getting passers by to 'Do the Locomotion', outside with a very young and quite nervous Kylie Minogue.

A few months later she was working for the 'other side', having being lightly poached by ITV's Central News where she reported for and anchored their live nightly news which was enormous fun and presented 'Sky High' taking viewers all over the Midlands by helicopter.
She moved back to the BBC where she hosts the Inside Out programme.
