Biography

I am 20 years old, from Leicester and studying civil engineering at university. I started cycling with a club at the age of 13 and have gone on to compete in various disciplines (cyclocross, road and mountain biking). Over the years, I have been to many coaching sessions run by different coaches with different aims. When I became too old to ride the children's sessions, I decided that I would turn to coaching to stay involved in an environment I loved. Through helping at club sessions and British Cycling holiday activities, I completed the Cycling Award for Young Volunteers scheme to the highest level. Since turning 18, I completed my Level 2 cycling qualification. Last year, I completed my road and time trial qualification and this year, I completed a Cyclocross and a track cycling qualification. I am proud to a member of the British Cycling National Youth Forum, working with other young people to make improvements to activities for children. I have been involved in many great opportunities and have helped a wide range of abilities, from children learning to how to ride to young riders winning races. This year has been a great year for my coaching development and I was amazed to be awarded the 'unsung hero' award at the university cycling club Christmas dinner.

JHMT's Support

I am delighted to receive the award and it will enable me to continue on the coaching pathway and help me to give more children the opportunity to ride bikes.

Simon Taylor, Inspire lead, said: ' We are particularly pleased to make this award to someone who as well as being individually excellent is striving to help others develop too . We wish Rebecca well
