‘Happy New Year 2014’ from the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust

Everyone who has supported us to during 2013 in our campaign to break the silence on SADS – Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome – responsible for the loss of at least 12 precious young people every week in the UK. These devastating deaths can be prevented with greater awareness of the key signs and symptoms, and even in cases where no sign or symptom is presented (as in the case of our wonderful son Joe) effective CPR and prompt defibrillation will save lives.

There are so many people to whom we want to give huge thanks, the success of Joe's Trust achieved to date is due to the collective will and effort of so many willing volunteers and foot soldiers from all walks of life, professions and ages, who have found the time to share their many talents to help the Trust take on this almighty challenge to change the culture regarding to the understanding, awareness, preventive measures and support for families who suffer the tragic and sudden unexpected death of a young person.

The Joe Humphries Memorial Trust has managed to achieve some major milestones and is now ready for the next phase, aimed at maximising the chances of survival of those young people who suffer a sudden cardiac arrest. Key to achieving this goal is to ensure that every young person leaves secondary education in Leicester and Leicestershire knowing how to save a life with the appropriate CPR skills and defibrillator appreciation.

The Trust is committed, through Joe's legacy, to make a difference to the lives of young people, just like Joe, and further details on our plans will be forthcoming during the first quarter of 2014.

The heartbreaking loss of our amazing son and soul mate Joe has bought the size of the challenge ahead into sharp focus but in memory of Joe, and the thousands who have gone before, the Leicester and Leicestershire public can be assured that JHMT will never stop working to save young heart beats.

Many thanks for all your support and Happy New Year.

Steve and Ang
(Joe's Parents)
