Completion of My Level 1 Coaching Badge in Football

The course that I attended required me to attend 6 dates at the Leicestershire FA, two of these dates were practical delivery of the content of the course, this content was related to the coaching of basic to complex skills to a wide range of ages that participate in Football, this would allow me to take the content learnt and to use it when I volunteer at my local Football team. This content came in the forms of basic practical games that required the participants to use 4 different FA Corners, these were Physical (Running and Walking), Technical (Dribbling and Control), Social (Communication and Teamwork) and Psychological (Decision Making and Understanding). By learning this and taking in into consideration when planning a session it allows me to put it to use by using it when delivering the session, if these are used successfully on a regular basis then it should aid the understanding and the development of the player.

Another two nights were split into both the safeguarding of participants and also emergency first aid, these were required for the completion of the course. Both Emergency First Aid and safeguarding of participants is highly important when being a coach as their safety is the most vital throughout. Safeguarding is the protection of the participants when they are participating, this can be through risk assessing all of the facilities in use by identifying risks and removing them for example any glass from the pitch. First Aid is any treatment that can be either minor to the more severe cases, in the more severe cases it is relied upon to keep the participant stable until the Ambulance arrives.

The last two days were split up, the first date we were matched into pairs and given a chosen skill game that we had learned during the earlier practical dates, this was done to prepare us for the next day when we would be individually delivering a different skill game by ourselves. This allowed for us to become used to what was expected from us for example making good eye contact and also offering demonstrations if needed, it also allowed the tutor to offer individual feedback to us on what we could improve on. The first and second day were rather similar, on both days I was required to set up the game to exactly how it was supposed to be, this was included in the grading of my assessment. I then had to introduce the game, the key points and main focuses to the participants so they knew what the game focused on and what it aimed to improve. Throughout the game I had to decide what was going well and if I had to change anything, we were required to include at least to progressions which were done to increase the difficulty of the game and to test the players.

I received top marks in all of the criteria that I was being assessed on and was awarded my Coaching Badge. The JHMT award has allowed me to attend and complete the course which will help me in the future for the career I wish to go into, I would like to thank them once again for the huge opportunity they have gave me.
