Josh's Blog

Josh Raven is 18 year old and from Leicester. He's particularly interested in screen printing which comes from an interest in fashion. Having studied fashion at college, he now want to take this to another level by learning news skills.

Soft Touch Arts have offered Josh the opportunity to have his own exhibition in their gallery enabling him to create work that will the public will view.

Josh said: ' I will use the JHMT Inspire grant to buy some equipment so that I can learn at home in my own time. I am really interested in making my own clothes. This and the exhibition will help me to get onto a level 2 college course in fashion which is my ambition. My exhibition will also be seen by lots of other young people who come to Soft Touch and hopefully it will inspire them to also aim high.

' Also, I would like to go to London as there is an exhibition on at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London - T-Shirt: Cult, Culture, Subversion – this would be a great opportunity for me to see some work by important artist's like Vivienne Westwood and get inspiration for my own work.'

'It will mean that I can make my own clothes, do things for myself, not just going out and buying things from shops. This would give me a sense of pride, achievement and individuality. Having my own exhibition would be a real achievement and then could get me thinking that maybe there's other things I could do. This will give me the support to work on my own initiative and giving me a challenge to aim for.' he added.
