World Championships in Austria

On the 27th September I competed in my first ever World Road Championships representing Great Britain and what an amazing experience it was! A few days before the big event I flew out to Munich with several other junior riders where we were picked up and driven to our accommodation in Innsbruck, Austria. Shortly after arriving we all sat down to eat before having our all important team brief, we were also given our GB race clothing which I couldn't wait to try on. It was all starting to become real, I was going to be racing my biggest race to date 'The World Championships'.The following day after putting our bikes together we all set off to check out a particular section of the course; the first climb, I knew this would be the pivotal point in the race as it was super steep!!Race day came around so quickly, we were up super early as my race was due to start at 9am. I was so excited and proud as I put on my GB race clothing, another particular highlight was traveling to the race on the Team Sky tour bus.As soon as the race got underway our team tactics came into play, this was to keep the pace high as we headed towards the first steep climb. Already riders were struggling to stay with the pace, I suppose staying at the front end of the race had its benefits as I avoided several crashes. As we hit the climb my team duties were pretty much over and I soon found myself drifting through the Peleton, I was however determined to finish the race especially with this being the World Championships. The good news was our lead GB rider Pheiffer Georgi was in the front group.I pushed hard and made it over final climb to finish 83rd, and although I was disappointed with my finishing result nothing could compare to the time I had out in Austria and I'm truly grateful to have been given this amazing opportunity
