UK Wakeboard Nationals 2019

This weekend I competed in the 2019 UK Wakeboard Nationals at Thorpe Park. This was the 20th anniversary for the competition, so there were also demonstrations from professionals in other parts of the Water Ski and Wakeboard industry, such as wakesurfers.
I went down to Thorpe on Wednesday afternoon, in order to prepare a new competition run (2 passes of the lake) with the Team GB coach, as well as to work on a few new bits. By Thursday afternoon, I had my new competition run on lock, and had also landed a new trick called a switch backroll (a side flip with the opposite foot forward to normal). This made me feel confident ahead of Friday's practice behind the competition boat.
However, on Friday it was not meant to be. After successfully landing my run straight from the dock, I attempted to do it again. Unfortunately, this time I hyperextended my knee on landing one of my tricks, leaving me unable to put much weight through that leg. Despite this, the onsite medical, physio and soft tissue massage team assured me that there was no major damage. Therefore, I decided I would still compete in the competition.
On Saturday, I woke up feeling a little better, and could now walk almost normally, which was a positive sign. I then went to the lake and registered, but I wasn't actually competing until the afternoon. The soft tissue therapist then gave me some treatment to try and loosen me up before my ride. Shortly after this, my division started. Due to winning the overall rankings last season, I would be last off of the dock and would be able to watch all of the other girls before me. My older friends from the professional divisions advised me to watch them, and then reconstruct a run I knew my knee could handle but would still put me in a good position ahead of Sunday's final. That is exactly what I did, and managed to qualify in first!
By Sunday, my knee was beginning to feel a lot better. I managed to go out and land the same run I had done on the previous day and bring home my 8th National Title in my last ever year competing as a junior. I am extremely grateful to everyone who has helped me achieve this.
Overall, I am pleased with my performance this weekend and look forward to the Europeans in August.
