How recent lockdowns have affected my training
Posted: Tue, 27 Apr 2021
As an athlete who relies on specialist facilities at Loughborough University to train in, the recent lockdown periods have been difficult, as they have prevented me from being able to use these facilities. Therefore, I've been adapting my training in different ways. On a Saturday, we would usually be ripping up fast reps on the track and feeling the effects of a hard-hitting lactate headache in the aftermath. However, this hasn't been possible. Instead, I would go down to my local steep hill (not quite Templar Way!) and hit a hill session. Not quite quick track reps, but still the lactate headache!! Obviously as well there have been times where we've been unable to train with a companion or groups of people! Therefore, there has been a lot of lonely runs, especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I bought a new pair of specialist training wireless earphones with the aid of the JHMT inspire fund in order to keep me entertained on these runs - absolute savior!
But now we look onwards and upwards - group runs and track sessions have started up again and races are coming thick and fast. Time to use some of that lockdown training to run some quick times when it matters!
