Biography
Edie's karate journey began almost by accident. While waiting for her younger sister Hettie at Simon Cooper Karate School, she was invited to join in rather than sit on the sidelines. One session was all it took, she was hooked! Since earning her first belt in late 2020, Edie's dedication has been unstoppable. Even through lockdown, she trained online and returned stronger than ever.
Her competitive debut at the end of 2022 was just the beginning. By April 2023, she had already claimed gold in Open Kata and bronze in Wado Kata at the North East Open. This then followed her competing in various competitions around the UK collecting over twenty medals. In October 2024, Edie represented England at the European WadoKai Championships, bringing home silver and bronze medals. And now, she's set to take on the world once again having been selected to represent England at the WadoKai International Cup in Tokyo, Japan.
Training in seven different classes a week, attending elite camps, and competing at the highest levels, Edie's journey is nothing short of inspiring. From a chance beginning to an international competitor, she's one to watch!
"To be given this grant from the trust means so much to me, it will go a long way in my additional training I'll be doing leading up to Japan. I'm really excited about competing for England at the world championships." - Edie Wrighton
