Biography
Having played football for Mountsorrel FC and playing tennis competing at county level, Ezra felt disillusioned by the toxic nature of the parents and spectators so was looking for a different sport. Ezra started his karate journey in August 2022 with Simon Coope Karate Schools in Loughborough after being inspired by the film and tv series The Karate Kid.
His first karate tournament in November 2022 highlighted his natural ability and he was soon competing regularly at competitions nationwide whilst progressing towards gaining his belts.
He was selected to represent Wadokai England at the 2023 European Championships in Belgium where he placed 4th in both kata (form) and kumite (fighting). Regular competitions and training followed in 2024 where he was selected by the EKF (English Karate Federation) midlands region to compete at the Dutch Open in Almere, this was his first ranking tournament and he won 4 fights earning a well deserved bronze medal. This achievement led to his invitation to train with the EKF national kumite squad for a 3 month trial. His trial was a success and he is now a full member of the squad. This means Ezra is now in a position to compete both nationally and globally to earn ranking points in the hope of being selected to compete at the WKF European and World Championships, an amazing feat after only 2 and a half years of training/competing!
Ezra was also selected by Wadokai England for the 2024 European Championships in Cyprus where he brought home 3 silver medals in and massively improved his performance from the previous year.
In the meantime Ezra has also been selected to represent Wadokai England at the upcoming 2025 Wadokai International Cup in Japan which is a fantastic opportunity to compete with the worlds best in the home of karate! Many thanks to the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust for their financial assistance in helping Ezra to get to Japan!
