Biography
Hello, my name is Isaac Gosling, and I am 16 years old. I am currently in my first year studying for my BTEC in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Motor Sport) at Loughborough College.
I followed my older brother into rowing and joined Leicester Rowing Club when I was 13. I took part in a taster session on a very cold and wet February day and loved it from the start.
I train four times a week all year round as part of the junior squad. During the year, the club take part in various types of races around the country. During the summer we compete in regattas which is racing side by side and in the winter head races, which are timed events over a certain distance.
Over my time at the club, I have competed in different boat categories, which are singles, doubles, or a quad. Latterly I have been concentrating my training in single boats, to improve my technique and progress further. My highlight has been competing at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta at Holme Pier Point representing the East Midlands.
I am extremely grateful to the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust for their support with the Inspire grant. This has allowed me to buy a stroke coach which will aid me in my training, as it monitors precisely how I am performing in the boat.
On a personal level, rowing has not only supported my physical health, but has also given me confidence, both on and off the water. Rowing teaches discipline and teamwork, as you have to work together to reach the end goal. I would encourage anyone to go and find a sport which they can enjoy and benefit from.
I feel that it is important to inspire and encourage new members, who wish to try rowing. I enjoy helping with learn to row courses, and I have recently become the Junior Rep on the committee at the club.
