Biography
I have been a triathlete for the past 8 years and for the last 3 years I've been competing in the British Triathlon Super Series events. These events take place all over the country and are usually held between April and September. Whilst I compete in the traditional formal of swim, bike, run, some of the events also consist of aquathlons (swim and run) and eliminator races which consist of swim bike run/run bike swim/bike swim run. The eliminator races are fun event and we get to dive off the pontoon into Eton Dorney lake.
Last year I was lucky enough to be selected by British Triathlon to compete in the European Triathlon Junior Cup in Salini, Malta. It was a fantastic experience and out of 75 other triathletes I finished in the top 20 which was a great achievement given the age group was up to 19 years of age.
My triathlon weekly training consists of approximately 24,000 metres of swimming (960 lengths of a standard swimming pool), 50km of running and 270-320km of cycling. I have to fit this in alongside my college work which sometimes is challenging.
I am also part of the Midlands Triathlon Academy which hold a number of intelligence race day events throughout the year together with training camps in the peak district and winter training camps in Fuerteventura.
I also compete in cross country and was the U17 boys Leicester & Rutland cross county champion in January. I've now been selected as part of the Leicester & Rutland team to compete in the Inter-Counties cross county event in Nottingham in March.
I am grateful to the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust for the Inspire Award. This will enable me to continue with the sport I love and will go towards the race entry fees and ongoing equipment required.
