Biography

Hello, I'm Katy. I am a endurance athlete from South Wales but I am currently studying and living at Loughborough college. I have competed at regional level and hope to compete nationally over the next year. I currently train 6 days a week and strive for success. I have strong belief in myself and my capabilities which i love to show off by faces any challenges with a 'can do' attitude.

I began running 5 years ago at the age of 11 when my mother was training for the London marathon. Initially it was to support her and keep her company on her runs, however this quickly became something that I loved doing for myself. I joined my local athletics club (Bridgend AC), where running with others of the same ability as myself gave me the confidence to work harder which quickly changed into having a strong competitive edge. I started competing at low level, local races and was very successful. This quickly led to being selected to run for my county and my region (South Wales). As time has passed i have discovered that my real love is in endurance running, specifically the 10km distance. This last year I have concentrated on the 5km and 10km distances and am now currently ranked 3rd in Wales (unofficially) for my age category in the 10km. This has only fuelled my desire to keep training hard and improve my times.

I currently train 6 days a week, this has increased gradually over the years. Even more so since having my coach, Gavin Smith. Gavin has been a wealth of knowledge and a great support during some really hard times, both physically and psychologically. Including when I have recently moved to Loughborough to pursue my goals and train at incredible facilities with the best of the best coaches. The JHMT is helping me receive some of the best coaching in the country at world class facilities which will help me reach my goals of becoming an elite athlete, competing on the world stage!
