Biography

My name is Mae, a Sport and Exercise Science student from Loughborough University. This summer, myself, along with several other skilled young athletes, are heading out to Zambia for 6 weeks to coach netball within communities and schools. This placement is a once in a lifetime opportunity, which focuses heavily on bringing our sporting knowledge we have developed over the years and applying it in a sustainable, long term way.

My passion and love for netball developed when I was simply 5 years old, playing, officiating and coaching the sport over the years helped develop me even further into the netballer I am today. While out in Zambia, we will be working with volunteer coaches in the schools alongside the groups of girls, teaching them new drills, rules, games, all so that coaching can be effectively continued even after we leave.

In order to experience this amazing journey, we have had to raise £1500 each along with a £5000 grand total between of us here at Loughborough. I just wanted to say a huge thank you to JHMT for helping support me in my fundraising, it's been an amazing year and I simply can't wait to get out there now and get stuck in.

Simon Taylor, Inspire Award lead, said: 'Mae and the team are a great example of young people who want to make a difference and improve lives , we are delighted to make this award'
