Biography

Hi I'm Mytchel, I'm 16 years old and from Leicestershire

The first time I picked up a tennis racket I was 5 years old and I haven't stopped playing since. I've played in club league teams in every age group from under 8's to under 18's and I now play for the mens 1st team.

In the 11 years I have been playing I was lucky enough to have the same coach for 9 years and it was watching his passion and enthusiasm for the sport and how he just wanted to get everyone on court learning and having fun, no matter what their age or ability, that made me realise I wanted to become a tennis coach.

I've been at my current tennis club for 5 years now and from the moment I joined I began volunteering during mixed squads to help the younger players develop their skills. This lead to the clubs committee nominating me twice for Young Volunteer of the year in the Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council Sports Awards and in 2019 I was lucky enough to be named the winner which was a real honour.

I have taken and passed the LTA Tennis Leaders Course and also the Hinckley & Bosworth SSPAN Level 2 Advanced Sports Leadership Course, both of which were great fun and only made me realise even more that coaching was definitely the career for me.

The first major step to becoming a full time tennis coach is to pass the LTA Level 1 Tennis Coaching Course which I will hopefully be able to do this year with support from JHMT Inspire.

The Inspire award means everything to me as I can now take the first step to becoming a full time tennis coach which is something I had dreamed of doing since I started playing tennis at the age of 5.

I then aim to move on to the Level 2 and Level 3 courses to reach my goal and be able to inspire people to play tennis the way my coach inspired me.
