Medical records remain confidential after death but may be available to the deceased's personal representative or anyone who may have a claim arising out of the deceased's death, subject to some restrictions, under the terms of the Access to Health Records Act 1990. These can be viewed online
Coroners are entitled to obtain copies of medical information that is relevant and necessary to their investigations. Medical information about the deceased may be disclosed at an inquest hearing if it is relevant to the purpose of the inquest and the determination of the cause of death.
